Jesus' Mercy Changes Me, We and the World

What Holiday Is It?

Merry Christmas!!!  Oh wait, I mean, Happy Thanksgiving!!!

With Christmas music already playing in stores and over the radio and Black Friday deals and steals going on everywhere, it may be easy to gloss right over the November holiday.

In a world where our holiday traditions will not look the same for many of us and people long for anything that is remotely “normal” may we be reminded that being thankful is something we can do daily, not just the fourth Thursday of November.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”  Psalm 107:1

What are you thankful for during this time?  I am thankful for all that God has given me, the good times and the trying times and all that the journey holds.   I am thankful for the new appreciation I have for staying connected with family and friends.  I am thankful for all of you reading this who have enriched my life in some way.  I am thankful to all of you reading this that I have yet to meet.  I am thankful for a God who holds us, me and you, in the palm of his hand, watching over us and keeping us safe.

I ran across this gem from a friend written in 1995.  I believe it is still relevant today and speaks of things that warm my heart when I think of people and things I too am thankful for …

“… somewhere amongst the football games and stuffing, the parades and pecan pie, don’t forget to thank the Lord above for all that He has given you. One thing that I am very thankful for is the love of friends like you, and I wish to take this opportunity to give thanks to you for the laughs, the smiles, the hugs, the shared wisdom, and the kind words that you have given me …”

May we be thankful this day and always.  It is my wish that you find Thanksgiving all year long, seeing God’s beauty in everything.

Dear God, this world we live in is not what it used to be. It has become a world that has sadly forgotten that we are all one.  It is a world that has been turned upside down so that it can be turned right side up again.  Thank you Lord for all that you have Blessed our lives with.  Please be with us today and every day, leading and guiding us into a daily life of thankfulness no matter what life may bring.  In your name we pray.  Amen.
