You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith, and hope. ~Thomas Merton
The above quote came from “A Network for Grateful Living’s” Word For The Day on 3/17/2020. I saved it, as I do when something particularly speaks to me. At the time, we were just being hit with the Covid stay at home orders and all that entailed. Fast forward two long months…George Floyd in Minneapolis. I have reread Merton’s words several times this morning. Sometimes it is hard to have courage, faith and hope, isn’t it? I think back to Jim’s devo from yesterday… “Jesus did not fit into the cultural norms of his time. He treated everyone as if they were a wonderful, loving, precious child of GOD… everyone.” What would Jesus do if he were standing on the streets of Minneapolis amidst the chaos?
Gracious God, during these dark days filled with anger, rage, distrust and deep sadness, help us all to find the courage, faith, and hope only you can bring. Amen
