I recently attended a wedding held at a Catholic church for one of my college roommates. It was the first time I had been in what people would call a “traditional church” in… well I could not tell you the last time I had worshipped in one.
Honestly, I didn’t miss it.
As I was standing in the church during the rehearsal, my thoughts were not about how beautiful the church was, but more about how proud I was to have had the opportunity to worship with God’s Grace in unconventional places. We have worshipped in a nursery, a place across from a movie theater (I don’t remember what it was originally meant to be), and a high school.
All of my experiences with God’s Grace taught me that God is everywhere and can and should be worshipped everywhere. You don’t need an expensive church to worship or pray in. You don’t need an expensive church to do God’s work and help others.
Wherever you are, at any point of the day is the perfect place to stop, to pray, and to thank God for all he has provided for you.
Wherever you are. Pause.
Take a breath.
And thank God for all he has provided for you because you don’t need to be in a church to worship. You just need yourself and God in your heart.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
Lord, thank you for the unconventional places of worship you have provided to us, so that we may do your work and spread your love the best way we can. Amen.
