Jesus' Mercy Changes Me, We and the World

Spirit Time

We have spent most of the past few days in the mountains – a welcome change of scene after many months in relative isolation at home.  After a nice lunch in Frisco, we stopped for a few minutes at the trailhead on the west end of town before getting back on I-70.  Despite being up in that beautiful area, I still have a hard time stepping back from my deep-seated tendency to keep moving forward.  I started to get impatient after sitting there for 10 minutes, and told Jan as much.  She responded to me that “This is Spirit time”.

With that suggestion, I got out of the car and headed up the trail for just a few minutes.  As I rounded the corner, God got my attention as I looked ahead.

I immediately knew that Jan was right, it was “Spirit time”.  God wanted me to slow down and be in the moment, rather than worrying about how soon we would make it over the pass to Vail.  Despite all of the craziness in the world today, God is God, and we are God’s creatures who need to delight in all that God has created.  Be still and know that I am God.  As I stood there and drank in the sunlight shimmering in the golden trees against the brilliant blue sky, I was confident that as much as we humans may mess up the world, “God is the ruler yet”.

Loving God,

Thank you for the reminder that every time is Spirit time, time to listen to you and be reminded of your love for us.  You have made us and given us this wonderful world.  Help us to be good stewards of your gift!
