Jesus' Mercy Changes Me, We and the World

Obedience

Dear Commanded,

Jesus said, “This is my commandment , that you love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15:21)

Sometimes in the modern world we forget that we are not to simply love Jesus or even to follow Jesus ; we are to also obey Jesus. Obedience is not a favorite word in our freedom-loving, independent culture. And yet, Jesus loves us enough to command us, and we are called to love Christ enough to obey Jesus’ commands. Christians are those who are not simply following Jesus because we have found Jesus to be a helpful means of getting what we want out of life. Christians are those who follow Jesus in obedience, confident that when we obey Christ, we are fulfilling what God wants to get out of the world.

See John 15:9-17 for further reflection.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ , who in your resurrection trampled down death and triumphed over Satan , giving birth to your church, and opening to all the doors of the kingdom , strengthen us in our various ministries that in serving you we might please you and that in obeying you we might witness to the world that you are Lord, that you will reign , and that you will triumph forever. Give us the wisdom to know your way. Give us the courage to follow your way. Give us the grace to be content in obedience to your commands. Amen

Hold in your prayers : Todd Benedict who is recovering from a car accident in Texas. Denny Pressler who is struggling with Parkinson’s in Arizona. All who mourn the death of John Hearing, Lawanda Hearing’s son and brother of Theresa Cope and Tammie Reeves.
