Learning is hard. We think we know someone or something and then it turns out we didn’t really understand. Jesus is constantly trying to teach the disciples (and us) stuff. And they (we) didn’t get it. Changing our mind seems like failure.
But it’s not. Jesus invites us to change and become new daily. It’s the only way to be who God dreams we might be: willing to grow and be recreated in God’s image. Jesus talks a lot about children, Jesus welcomes children and Jesus chastises those who turn children aside. Children are valued because they know exactly what it’s like to grow and learn new things and change their minds.
And the seasons invite us to reflect and consider how we’ve changed and grown. This week we turned the page to autumn. It’s a good time to think about what we learned this summer and what we might want to learn this fall.
The Lesson of the Falling Leaves, a poem by Lucille Clifton
the leaves believe
such letting go is love
such love is faith
such faith is grace
such grace is god
i agree with the leaves
We’ll be looking for you tomorrow in worship, in-person at RCHS or through the stream at 10:00 am MDT. It won’t be the same without you.
Grace be with you,
