Paul writes in his letter to the Philippians:
If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. Phil 2:1-4
The neat thing about the Bible is that words written 2,000+ years ago are still relevant in our day.
What stands out to you in these words? “Agree with each other”? “Love each other”? “Lend a helping hand”?
I hear Paul asking us to consider what following Christ has meant to us, if Christ’s love is making us different. Will people know that we are Christ followers by how we love, are friends, and help others?
I do want to show Jesus that I do care! But sometimes I push and put myself first. Lord have mercy.
