Jesus' Mercy Changes Me, We and the World

Jesus said, “The greatest among you will be your servant. All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted.” Matt 23:11-12

He’s always talking about how the last will be first, to give away all we have and how servant leadership is his way. But it’s really hard for us. It seems the human condition is to want to be first and best, to have the most, and to be recognized for how smart/good/wonderful we are. It’s hard work to see around those desires.  I think this quote captures what Jesus is talking about.

Humility does not mean thinking less of yourself than of other people, nor does it mean having a low opinion of your own gifts. It means freedom from thinking about yourself at all.

Tomorrow we remember the saints who humbled us and helped make us who we are. Tuesday may we humble ourselves to bring the nation together for the common good.

Please join us tomorrow at 10:00 am for worship via the livestream. God brings us together in the presence of the Spirit as a holy community. Praise God!

“[Be] daring enough to be different, humble enough to make mistakes, wild enough to be burnt in the fire of love, real enough to make others see how phony [you] are.”
