Jesus' Mercy Changes Me, We and the World

He’s With Us

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9.

When it comes to the growth and change that I have experienced these past 6 months, I always keep that verse in the back of my mind. One reason being it was a very close friend of mine’s favorite verse. After she had passed, I had realized that throughout her life, she was a very strong and courageous person with many ambitions. She never backed down from change and difficult tasks and I found that very admirable of her. I think it’d be admirable for all of us to heed these words and use them in our daily lives when we are placed in situations that are outside of our comfort zones. Life isn’t meant to be lived without taking some risks and having the courage to try new and different things.

Another reason why I really enjoy this verse is because it has given me some clarity and insight with my life right now. I have bought my first home and am currently in the process of remodeling and renovating it. To say that I am not scared about the huge investment I have made would be an understatement. It is scary to put literally every cent that you have saved into one thing. It doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t have faith that everything won’t come to fruition. Having a career change is a big and intimidating change that has also occurred during this chaotic time. Switching my brain from floor nursing to emergency medicine is a big transition. I have always wanted to work in a critical care environment and now I have that opportunity. I was patient, knowing that if I stay the course and keep working, I would end up at my goal.

Lastly, the loss of a family dog due to an accident added on top of the stress I am living with daily. It’s crazy how life can be managed and under control until all of a sudden it isn’t. You expect perils to happen on a daily basis, but when it affects you personally, you can’t seem to quite understand why or how to live with them. When I pray at night, I pray for the strength and courage to be successful the next day. I also know that deep down, I shouldn’t be discouraged because “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” ~Deuteronomy 31:8. As long as we are strong in our faith and aren’t discouraged at what this crazy world throws at us, we will persevere because God will always be with us along our paths.
