My hearing is failing with old age and my listening skills could use some help as well! The Lenten Devotional, “Listening with all your heart, soul, and mind”, is exactly what I need to prepare my heart for Easter.
My children frequently complain about my inability to hear them. I jokingly reply with the saying, “when you have something to say that I want to hear, I will hear it”. Then of course I ask if they want to contribute for new hearing aids. That definitely ends the discussion!
The Lenten Devotional highlighted the truth of this saying. Do I only listen to God when it’s something I want to hear? My three year old grandson loves to cover his ears with his hands when he doesn’t want to hear my requests that might disrupt his agenda. Do I do the same?Do I give my full attention to God’s Word?
Psalm 119:105 is “Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”
This reminds me of the beautiful song written by Michael W. Smith and sung by Amy Grant. The second verse is:
I will not forget, Your love for me and yet, My heart forever is wandering. Jesus be my guide, And hold me to your side, I will love you to the end.
Romans 10:17 is “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ.”
My prayer is for God to open my ears to hear His Word, and listen with all my heart!
