Jesus' Mercy Changes Me, We and the World

Diving Head First

Diving head first into the new year! Already we have been hit with some challenges. For some reason, I thought the new year had a grace period filled with bliss. I get stressed easily and totally lack patience when dealing with unwanted surprises, otherwise known as “trials and tribulations”. Defined as “tests of one’s patience or endurance”. The endurance part I can do, it’s the patience that gets me. The more I endure, the less patient I become. And where is God in this? Jim Flanigan asked that question in his wonderful sermon this week when referring to troubled times and his relationship with God during those times.

I lean on God in tough times and I hope I remember to praise God when things go well. James 5:13 “Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises.” So here I go, trudging on dealing with challenges. But I still get to go to the mountains and go fishing, I still have the love of my family. I can handle this and I will praise God for the challenges and the blessings in my life.

3 And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5

Wishing you a new year filled with endurance, hope and love.
