Jesus' Mercy Changes Me, We and the World

Divided

“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand” Matthew 12:25

More and more each day I see how this wonderful nation that we inhabit is becoming more and more split apart. It no longer seems that we are united, but divided. You are either left or right, blue or red, or white and black. People who used to love one another are at each other’s throats for their political beliefs and don’t seem to find middle ground. Nobody will listen to one another and will make judgements on your character based solely on where you side on the political spectrum. Is this what Jesus has asked of us?

“I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgement” 1 Corinthians 1:10.

Paul is speaking to fellow followers in Christ and says that he has heard quarreling as to who people want to follow. Some said they follow Paul, Apollos, Cephas, Christ, etc. Paul makes a great point by asking “Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?” He makes his point by stating that Jesus Christ is our Lord and there shall be none other. Yes, we live in a democracy, but do we live in a democracy that supports itself? Quite frankly, I don’t remember the last time where our country had politicians that respected one another and only cared about the well-being of our country. Nothing seems to be accomplished because now whoever becomes the leader of the free world spends most of their time dismantling everything the prior candidate had built in the four years prior.

“I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naïve” Romans 16:17-18.
“Truly, I understand that God shows no partiality” Acts 10:34. “Whoever says he is in light and hates his brother is still in darkness” 1 John 2:9.

There are so many other verses to list because so many times in the Bible there are instances where we are told to not be divided. Though there may be strife amongst ourselves as a nation, we still need to treat and love one another as Jesus intended because this nation cannot stand divided.
