Jesus' Mercy Changes Me, We and the World

Coffee

One of my favorite things to do before sermon on Sunday is to get a cup of hazelnut coffee at the Panera near my house.  The smell is so refreshing, and the taste is so wonderful.  It makes my spirits fly high and I think there is nothing in this world that I can’t do.  It is a great feeling.  I think we need that in the crazy times we are facing right now.  Threats of Covid everywhere means we are crippled even trying to have dinner at a restaurant. Wildfires and hurricanes are attacking from the west and the east.  Racial injustice and shootings causing protests in almost every city in the country.  All these things are even giving God a headache.  Our spirits are weakening at this time, but we’ve got to stay strong.  Wouldn’t it be great to go to the Panera in Heaven and get a cup of hazelnut coffee to stabilize ourselves with peace?  Just get a cup of spiritual coffee.  Maybe we already have that.

Reading the Bible and praying every day is part of that coffee.  It puts our mind’s focus on God and gives a sense that, with Him, we can take on anything in this world.  Even fight a battle with the evil one.  It gives us hope and a sense of peace at the same time.  The Holy Spirit will always be with us — giving us direction when we have lost direction.  Giving us strength when we feel all is lost in our muscles.  All these things have been given by God almighty and we need to rely on these things every day to face the challenges of this world.  But yet there is something else about this coffee.

We need to share this coffee with others that don’t know about this coffee.  There are so many people that are living hopeless lives and if they had this coffee, their lives would change with a brighter outlook in life.  There are so many people that are well off and rich, but they say it is easier to put a camel through the eye of a needle than for them to accept Christ.  If we can share this coffee with them, they can make a great impact on others.  I think all of us need to share this coffee with everybody we meet.  This world is full of deceit and un-righteous things.  Wouldn’t this be a better place if we can do the opposite?  Give this world peace, light, and hope.  The presidential election is coming up and everybody is making a big deal that this is the most important event in our country.  Remember that God is still in control and Christ giving us new life is always the most important event in this country.

Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20

In Christ,
