Dear Loved Ones,
David Bartlett taught Homiletics (Preaching) at Yale University. He wrote an article some time back where he said the main point of preaching is love-love of your people whom God loves. And one of the ways that we love our people is by telling them the truth about God. He pressed upon his students that the love of God came with its greatest clarity through Jesus Christ.
“The preacher preaches out of love for her people , and what she preaches is the love of God. There is no better way to love a congregation than to preach truth to them, and central to that truth is the love of God in Jesus Christ. It is not easy love or cheap love, but it is the love that shaped creation, fashioned the people of Israel, was Incarnate in the human Jesus, continues to sustain the church , and drives history towards its consummation.” David Bartlett as quoted in “Pulpit Resource” September 21, 2014.
See Matthew 2 :1-6 for further reflection.
Prayers: For God’s Mercy to serve as our spiritual compass.
We hope to see all of you at “The Well” Zoom gathering tonight, 6pm. Let Vikki Luce email@example.com know if you are not on the invitation list.
Still in one peace,
Pastor David J. Jensen
