Jesus' Mercy Changes Me, We and the World

A Claim Upon Us

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

“If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea.” Mark 9:42

God has created us as responsible beings. Our actions have consequences. Although the grace of God in Christ accepts us as we are, in our baptism a claim is laid upon us : a call to follow Christ, to walk in Jesus’ way, and to glorify Christ in all that we do. If we fail to live as we ought, then there are consequences. We must not separate the love of God from the judgements of God.

Finke and Stark (two sociologists of religion ) observe: ”People tend to value religion on the basis of how costly it is to belong -the more one must sacrifice in order to be in good standing, the more valuable the religion.” (Thomas C. Reeves, “The Empty Church; The Suicide of Liberal Christianity”, the Free Press, 1996.)

See Mark 9:38-50 for further reflection.

Prayers for Davis Elizabeth Jensen who begins her third year of life today. For all children, parents, and grandparents everywhere.

*We hope to see all of you at Zoom ministry called The Well, this evening at 630pm. If you are not currently on the invitation list for this Zoom invite , contact Vikki Luce

*This Sunday we will also be recognizing the ministry of Dave Edwards. Due to distance (Dave and his wife Judy moved to Pueblo West 7 months ago), Dave will be transitioning from leading worship every week , to coming occasionally on Sundays. Dave will also remain the lead worship leader for The Well.

Still in one peace,

Pastor David J. Jensen
