Jesus' Mercy Changes Me, We and the World

Death Defeated

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We human beings have within our hands the capacity to do much good to alleviate some of the world’s pain. But there is one painful human inevitability that we have no power to modify – death. Christians believe the good news that in the resurrection of Jesus Christ , God has done something decisive about death. All our human attempts to defeat death are pitifully inadequate , but God’s work is grand in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

Prayer: Almighty God, we give you thanks that on Easter you resurrected the crucified Jesus from the dead. You thereby defeated death and established your reign over all things, including sin and death. Give us the courage and the grace to celebrate your resurrection victory so that we might see our power made manifest in the world. May we give ourselves more fully to living out the truth of the resurrection, not only on Easter, but every day of our Iives, even into the life everlasting. And we pray for all of the victims of the subway shootings in NYC.—Amen.
